Operation Reindeer

Operation Reindeer targets a range of crimes and incidents during Christmas and New Year. This includes: Town centre related violence, burglary and theft from motor vehicle.

Historically, this period sees a slight increase in these types of crimes. The party season also brings with it an increase in alcohol and drug related violence and injuries. Operation Reindeer aims to raise awareness of safety around alcohol and drugs and prevent burglary and theft.

For 2008 look out for gateway checks in Wigan Town centre around King Street. This is so Police and Partners can conduct on the spot checks for knives and drugs over the festive period to help keep revellers safe.

The practitioner group from Wigan Council, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue (GMFRS), Wigan & Leigh Housing, and Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust, who also worked on Operation Challenge, has already got to work on the plan for Operation Treacle.
