Partners

Reducing Crime, Disorder and Drugs Misuse requires the active involvement of a wide range of Partner organisations. These partners need to plan together and often deliver their particular services side by side. The Wigan and Leigh Community Safety Partnership does this well. Some of the partners are listed below:

Greater Manchester Police

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are responsible for Policing 5 Townships across the Borough of Wigan & Leigh. The Community Safety Team work together with GMP to solve Crime and Disorder problems from a Partnership approach. Wigan & Leigh Housing

Wigan and Leigh Housing Company was set up on 1st April 2002, to manage and maintain Council homes on behalf of Wigan Council. The Company is responsible for managing all landlord services for Wigan Council's 23,094 homes including rent collection, repairs and maintenance, dealing with empty properties and anti-social behaviour.

Wigan & Leigh Housing works closely with all partner agencies to improve the quality of life of residents and to promote a culture of social inclusion.

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) covers 10 districts, including the Borough of Wigan & Leigh. There are 4 Stations located throughout the Borough. Work between The community Safety Team and GMFRS ensures that proactive steps are taken to promote Fire Safety and awarness at every available opportunity. Home Watch

Wherever you live, you are part of a community. Regardless of its size, your community may be a likely target for the criminal. There is a lot you can do outside your own home and family to prevent crime. One such measure is to set up a Home Watch scheme in your community. Greater Manchester Probation

Greater Manchester Probation Area is the third largest of the 42 probation areas in England and Wales covering a population of around 2.5 million people across the County.

NHS Trust

The 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Trust are a specialist NHS Trust providing mental health services. They serve people living in the boroughs of Wigan & Leigh, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens and Warrington.

They work in partnership with the Local Authorities in each of the five boroughs to ensure local delivery of services and their development in accordance with national guidance and local needs.

Wigan Council

There are many departments within Wigan Council which help The Community Safety Team (CST) to operate effectively. The Research & Information section is one of the main drivers for Community Safety business. We also operate close ties with Ant-Social Behaviour Unit, Trading Standards, Licensing and The Drug & Alcohol Team, but to name a few.

Greater Manchester Police Authority

Greater Manchester Police Authority is the body with responsibility for making sure Greater Manchester Police is doing its job properly and continually delivering an improving police service. The Authority is made up of 19 members who work together with a team of staff to scrutinise police performance and hold the Chief Constable and his senior officers to account if performance isn't satisfactory. The Authority hires and, if necessary, fires chief constables and senior officers so members really do have an influence.
