Talking signs

After a few hiccups the talking signs are finally ready to be put into service. The first sign will go up in Ullswater Street, Leigh on the 26th May. We have written to residents close to the sign to warn them and get their views. So far feedback has been positive. Following the test, and providing we receive no serious objections from the residents, we will install the other 19 signs in the Leigh area around mid June.

Thefts of metal

Atherton's Neighbourhood Policing team has been patrolling hotspots and gathering intelligence from residents across Atherton, Tyldesley, and Astley following a surge in thefts of lead. So far this year there has been 47 thefts across the area; lead is being stolen from roofs, porches, and garages at all times of the day and night. Several significant arests have already been made in the Astley and Tyldesley area.

PACT doorknocking

The Partners and Communities Together (PACT) process starts a new cycle next week with doorknocking exercises across the Wigan South and Leigh townships. Officers from agencies across the Partnership will be canvassing the views of local residents to find out what the priorities and problems are in those areas.
