Marsh Green Neighbourhood Team
The Marsh Green Neighbourhood Team was a co-located team consisting of officers from the Police, the Neighbourhood Services department of Wigan Council, and Wigan & Leigh Housing. Community volunteers, tenants, and residents also committed their time and effort to the project and were key to the success of the scheme.
The initiative was a pilot scheme and provided a partnership approach to solving problems in the Marsh Green area. The team were based at the old Housing office at Marsh Green Library and provided a drop in centre for residents to report environmental, housing, and crime problems. Residents were able to get immediate feedback and reassurance.
The team worked so well together that they won the Chief Constable's Excellence Award for Community Focus. Inspector Bob Pell, who nominated the team said "the team has had tremendous success and they deserve to win this award in recognition of all their hard work".
The lessons learned from the pilot are now being recommended for partnership working across the Borough.
